Our
Story

How It all started

On April 18, 2011, a group of pastors gathered in Washington, NC, to discuss how they could unite to make a positive difference in our city. After gathering input from different members of the community, they agreed that the most pressing need in Beaufort County was a safe haven for victims of domestic abuse and their families.

In February 2013, our dream became a reality and when we opened our 24-hour emergency shelter and helpline. This comfortable home provides a a safe haven where women and their children can find peace while they begin to rebuild their lives. Surrounded by the latest in high-tech security, Ruth’s House offers a safe refuge for the victims of domestic violence.
